πŸ’‘Tech Tip ~ Google Classroom Organization

How do you organize your Google classroom for students during remote learning? How do you help students tell the difference between something they worked on two weeks ago versus the assignment they are working on today? There are so many unique ideas out there for ways to make the organization of Google Classroom more student friendly and accessible.

How I keep our remote classroom organized and try to accommodate for nonreaders and ELs:

  1. Use emojis to represent reading πŸ“– tasks, writing πŸ“tasks, audio 🎧, and video πŸŽ₯

  2. I have a topic identified as ⬇️ DO TODAY ⬇️

  3. I move completed tasks to a weekly βœ… Completed Topic (with the week's date)

  4. Number assignments (#001, #002, #003, etc.)

I include resource topics like:

  • πŸ“‘ Class Notes πŸ“‘ for all notes we take in class

  • πŸ“’ Weekly Notebooks πŸ“’ for students to access our reading response notebooks & writing notebooks plus notes that go with those practices

  • πŸ’» Tech Tips πŸ’» for navigating technology or using accessibility features

  • ⚠️ Important Information ⚠️ that includes schedules and privacy statements.

Our Classwork topics are easy to navigate on the side-panel in Google Classroom.

One thing I would like to change for next quarter is a new way to move completed assignments. Having a new topic each week has made it where we have more topics in the panel to choose from and I think as more time passes it has increased some confusion for students. This is definitely a system that needs revision.

I use the extension Emoji Keyboard by JoyPixels to customize Topics and Assignments in the Classwork Tab. What is your go-to resource to customize your remote learning classroom?
